Village Infants School

Free School Meals

Free School Meals

From September 2014 every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 no longer have to pay for a school dinner.  They are entitled to universal free school meal.

At Village Infants School our cook, Mrs Ovenden, prepares fresh healthy school meals every day and we hope that all pupils will take up this offer.  Alternatively,  if  you prefer, your child can still bring a packed lunch to school.

Important Information

In the past parents could apply for a Free School Meal for their child and if they were eligible the Government would give the school extra money for teaching and learning and the child would receive a Free School Meal.  Although now every infant child is entitled to a Free School Meal, parents still need to apply for them as the Government continues to give schools extra money for every child registered as qualifying for Free School Meals.  This extra money is now called a Pupil Premium Grant.  The money a school receives depends upon the number of children registered as Pupil Premium/Free School Meals Pupils.  For every child registered our school will receive £1,300.  We would therefore urge you to register to make sure our school does not miss out

Do you qualify?

You can register for our school to receive a Pupil Premium Grant if you receive ANY of these benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Pension Credit
  • Employment and Support Allowance

Please pick up a pink form from the school office, fill it in and return it to the office and we will pass it on Revenue Benefits Services so they can calculate the amount of Pupil Premium Grant our school should receive.

Please contact the office if you need any further information.

Thank you for your support.
